What are the difference between distilled and purified water?

In the water industry they differentiate between filtered and purified water.  The difference is in the processes the water goes through. Some systems used to purify water are systems such as reverse osmosis, ultraviolet, distillation, ozone, and de-ionization.  Water that went through one reverse osmosis or distillation is usually acidic and demineralized.

Filtered water is obtained by running the water through filters of a specific kind to remove specific elements in the water. Filtration methods include particulate, adsorption, carbon, KDF (kinetic degradation fluxion) and activated charcoal. The majority of filtered water still has the naturally present minerals intact. Filtered water usually has an alkaline or natural pH and is healthier in the long-term.
